Military Precision Keeps Houses In Check

Military Precision Keeps Houses In CheckModern British women keep their households in check with military precision so that they can keep on top of hectic family schedules, it has been claimed. New research conducted by Marks & Spencer (M&S) Money has found that to keep family households in order, British women are now running their homes according to a strict daily timetable.

The research found that more than one-fifth of mums have a series of strict deadlines for meal times, play times and bed times, while yet more families have a set timetable during the school week. Indeed the research found that less than one-third of mothers take a very relaxed attitude to the daily routine and play each day by ear.

“This research and the views of our Modern British Women panel reveal a nation of women who are managing the household schedule while still striving to build in time to relax with the family,” said Brendan Cook, the chief executive of M&S Money.

However, consumers looking for a little more flexibility in the course of a week may wish to consider taking out a personal loan to help pay for services that provide a little extra help around the home – be it in the form of a cleaner or an au pair.

Indeed such help may not only give a mother more time to herself, but could also help to stop children from falling into a pattern of routine, it has been suggested.

Donna Dawson, a psychologist, said that although routine is an important part of a child’s development, kids should also be given a certain amount of flexibility to help with their ongoing development.

“It’s also important that mums get free time for themselves, so they get a balance between motherhood and womanhood,” she said, adding that it is all too easy for women to lose themselves in being a good mother rather than taking note of their own needs and being an individual in their own right. “Being overly organised and structured can be as stressful as being disorganised.”

The research from M&S Money did in fact find that some 40 per cent of women put a cleaner at the top of their wish lists – something that a low rate personal loan could help to cover the cost of. Indeed the study found that people would be prepared to pay up to 15 pounds each week for help around the home.

And children believe their mums deserve help around the home, the research found, with some 77 per cent saying their mothers deserved more time to themselves. Indeed 87 per cent said they help their mum around the house so to free up some time.

Earlier this year, a study conducted by Lloyds TSB found that an increasing number of Britons are becoming worried about their job security, as a result of the ongoing effects of the credit crunch and a gloomier overall economic outlook across the whole of the country. Indeed the survey found that some 92 per cent of people believed prices have risen over the course of the last year.
