Increased debit card charges to hit Natwest holidaymakersNatwest customers could find their debt management problems increased as a new set of figures reveals the financial services provider is to up its charges for using debit cards abroad.

A study released by uSwitch.com indicates that as the bank increases its foreign card purchase fees from 75 pence to £1.25 from June 1st, consumers could lose out on £10.18 million, a figure which could help many with their personal loan repayments.

Nick White, director of financial services for uSwitch.com, said: "Customers of Natwest who travel abroad need to think seriously about switching to a card which offers a much better deal for overseas cash withdrawals and purchases."

He added that unless consumers switch cards they "may face a nasty surprise when they return from their trip and see the higher charges levied on their next statement".

Last week, uSwitch.com reported that using credit and debit cards while abroad could cause Britons to incur about £355 million in charges, which may impact upon their debt management when they return home.
